course „Gut Escheberg”,
Zierenberg / Kassel
Of the 27 holes originally planned for this golf club, only an 18
hole championship course with driving range, various practice facilities
and four short holes have actually been built up to now. The golf
course has the advantage of a very scenic location in the form of
forest and an interesting topography. Clever routing of the holes,
despite an almost one hundred metre difference in height, requires
the golfer to play only twice uphill, whilst playing twelve times
in a downhill direction and four times along the same contour line.
During the planning permission phase ornithologists discovered a pair
of great grey shrikes, which are on the register of endangered species.
The already approved design was then modified accordingly to provide
the birds with a habitat of some 15 hectares: an example how sport
and nature conservation can exist happily together.
